Home Depot: Emergency Preparedness
Home Depot had some long overlooked content about what to do in emergency situations. These pages cover preparation and cleanup in the event of hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, winter storms, and floods.
These pages had numerous goals in addition to being engaging:
- present the content effectively
- encourage the download of PDFs that contains buying lists
- tease the above lists
- encourage online shopping
I wanted to increase engagement in some way. However, the CMS limits layout options. That said, while wireframing/brainstorming I began to wonder if a basic checkbox function would be possible.
Browser uniformity continues to be a challenge but adding the checkbox instead of a standard list offered something no other page had. It gave users a way to really assess what they have in stock, quickly see what they might need, and increased PDF downloads substantially.
